Transient Workers Count Too is a society that seeks to promote the wellbeing of foreign migrant workers in Singapore and to encourage better understanding between those workers and their employers. The society undertakes advocacy, trying to encourage changes in views, practices and policies towards migrant workers; it undertakes research, which backs up the advocacy work by giving a stronger factual basis to discussion on migrant worker issues; and TWC2 also runs a helpline. The helpline is partly staffed by volunteers and takes dozens of calls every month, both from foreign workers and locals. We chiefly work on issues concerning foreign domestic workers and construction workers.
TWC2 is a membership organisation. Anyone who wants to support its work and stay informed about migrant worker-related issues can join for $10 a year.
TWC2 is currently seeking donations and financial support to sustain its operations; it needs to raise $40,000 to take it through to the end of 2008. The society also seeks volunteers willing to help in its research work. This year, our advocacy work, in cooperation with other societies, centres on promoting a day off each week for all domestic workers, and volunteers are certainly needed to help with this.
