SMU Broadcast and Entertainment (SMUBE) was previously known as SMU Backstage and Emcees (SMUBE). The club was approved and recognized by the SMU Students Association on 1 October 2003 and officially launched on 9 January 2004.
The club expanded its operations and renamed itself SMU Broadcast and Entertainment on 1 June 2004, with the addition of its broadcast wing. This was a major milestone for the club as it set out to form and manage SMU Campus Radio and SMU Campus TV.
SMU Campus Radio was officially launched by the President of the Republic of Singapore, Patron of SMU, President S R Nathan on Patron's Day 2005. This kick-started the first ever non-academically linked, fully student managed campus radio in the tertiary educational institutes in Singapore.
Starting out with 10 members, SMUBE has since grown to include over 150 individual members, all working together to achieve the same vision. From its humble beginnings of providing backstage and emcee support to live events both within and outside of SMU, SMUBE has expanded its operations to model those of top entertainment organizations in the industry.
